four home remedies for boils

A skin abscess or a boil is a localized infection that is seated beneath the skin. It normally begins as a reddened, tender area that eventually hardens. The center of the abscess is soft and filled with infection.

The body sends white blood cells to fight off the infection. It is this collection of white blood cells, dead or live bacteria and proteins that collectively form the pus. The pus forms the head of the boil that can be drained out through the surface of the skin. In rare cases, surgery may be needed.

Boils can be caused by bacterial infection, burns, injuries, allergies and even certain medicines. While they can become painful to handle, you can easily reduce the pain and inflammation at home by natural remedies.

Here’s how you can use onions, turmeric, parsley, and ginger to soothe a boil and alleviate infection.

Onions

Onions: Onions are packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation and suppress the growth of harmful microorganisms. Apply two to three drops of onion juice on the boils to remove the pus.

Turmeric

Turmeric: The anti-inflammatory effects of turmeric have blood purifying and anti-microbial properties. This helps drain out the pus from the boil on its own. Add five to six drops of water to a quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder to make a paste. Apply it on the boil twice daily for three days to find relief.

Parsley

Parsley: Parsley acts as a natural poultice that helps reduce pain and remove pus. The leaves soften the boil by reducing inflammation. Boil parsley leaves in water till they turn tender. Wrap these leaves when cool around the boil using a wash cloth twice daily.

Ginger
