Packed with vitamin C, copper, manganese and folate, a pineapple (Ananas comosus) is the only fruit containing bromelain (a unique protein-digesting enzyme), which can speed up wound healing, enhance immunity and prevent cancer.[1]

A cup of pineapple provides 132 percent of the recommended intake of vitamin C and 76 percent of manganese. While pineapples are delicious when consumed fresh, they can also enjoy the juiced, dried or canned varieties.

Studies show that eating pineapples may stimulate an immune response, shorten the duration of sinus infections, prevent blood clots and reduce inflammation.[2,3,4,5,] Bromelain present in them can also stop the growth of cancer cells and cause apoptosis (cell death).[6,7,8,9] Animal studies have shown that pineapples can reduce inflammation, too.[10,11,12]
