As embarrassing or uncomfortable as it sounds, leucorrhoea, or vaginal discharge, is actually important to keep your vagina healthy. Through the discharge, various bacteria and other organisms are flushed out of your system, thus preventing chances of further infection.

What Is Leucorrhoea?
Leucorrhoea, commonly known as vaginal discharge, is experienced by most women, irrespective of their age, and usually has a foul smell. The female genitalia tend to be moist and covered most of the time. This makes it prone to various infections. Sweating around your genitalia can also add to this.

Types Of Leucorrhoea

1. Physiological Leucorrhoea
This is a normal condition that you don’t need to be worried about. It can occur in newborn babies for some time after birth, in girls who are attaining puberty and undergoing hormonal changes, and in women during ovulation or during early weeks of pregnancy, and as a result of sexual excitement.

2. Pathological Leucorrhoea
It can be caused due to health issues, improper nutrition or other conditions that may have affected the genital area. This type of leucorrhoea is often accompanied by headaches, weakness, intense itching, and even constipation.

Cause
The most common cause for leucorrhoea is the presence of toxins in the system. In most cases, this condition also involves other parts of the reproductive organs. It could be due to wrong eating habits that fill up your body with toxins. It could also be due to the fact that your body is not able to eliminate the toxins that are accumulating inside, which leads to excess discharge from your vagina or uterus in the form of leucorrhoea. In extreme cases, the discharge could also be accompanied by pus, a very foul smell or change in color from cream to green or yellow.

Prevention
You can prevent or reduce the condition by following a few simple tips at home. Include fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, seeds, grains and nuts in your diet. Cut out all forms of fried and greasy foods. Stay away from foods that contain white flour, white sugar, preservatives and condiments. Avoid tea and coffee as much as you can. Sleep well, exercise regularly and get your daily dose of fresh air and sunshine.

As vaginal discharge is very common in females, you may not always feel the need for medical intervention. However, we recommend you see a doctor to prevent later complications.
