All is not lost yet. The health of your gums and teeth will depend on how well you care for them. Most oral and tooth infections are easily preventable. The most basic hygiene routine you can follow is to clean your mouth properly after each meal or drink. Regular brushing, flossing and eating healthy foods can also keep your oral hygiene at its best. Avoid sugary and sticky foods as they can leave behind a film of residue on your teeth. If you wear dentures, take them out at night and clean them before you wear them again.

1. Gum Disease & Heart Health
While the causes are not yet known, experts suggest that gum disease is often related to your heart health. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, if you are suffering from a gum disease, you are twice as likely to have a thickening of the arteries.

2. Dry Mouth & Cavity
If you are at the menopausal or post-menopausal stage, your mouth will produce less saliva, which can lead to your mouth drying out very fast. When your mouth gets dry and is left untreated, it can lead to cavities. Some medication may also cause dryness in the mouth.
