If there’s anything people love at a party, it’s cheese! A cheese ball recipe like this is always a crowd-pleaser and one of the easiest ways to feed your guests a tasty bite with a festive twist.

Classic cheese ball recipes are often served for almost every occasion. Whether it’s a big football game, a holiday dinner party, or a spooky Halloween gathering at the house, cheese balls are tasty appetizers.

This Halloween cheese ball is made like most other cheese ball recipes. The majority of the recipe is typically made up of cream cheese. This type of cheese is soft and works well for molding into different shapes, such as a spider for this Halloween version.

The cheese is flavored with a fragrant and bold spice mix like taco seasoning. You can always use your own custom blend of spices, but taco seasoning tends to have yummy spices like cumin, paprika, and garlic salt in the mix that add plenty of great flavors.

Also adding a wonderful taste to this cheese ball recipe are the chopped green onions. Green onions have that pungent onion flavor, yet aren’t as spicy as the yellow or white onions you cook with. They add a very pleasant flavor to mild cheeses like cream cheese.

It’s important to note that you need to allow for several hours of chilling time in the fridge before you can mold and shape your cheese into the spider shape shared here. If you try to mold room temperature cheese, you’ll struggle with getting a stable, neat design.

Feel free to experiment with other seasonings or garnishes with this cheese ball recipe. We used pretzel sticks for the spider legs, but you could also use veggies like celery sticks as a healthy alternative.

    Instructions

    1. To a large bowl, add the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and taco seasoning. Use an electric handheld mixer and beat the ingredients together until they're well blended.
    2. Add the green onions and stir them into the cheese mixture using a spoon until they're well combined. Cover the bowl and chill in the fridge for several hours.
    3. Scoop 1/2 cup of the cheese mixture and shape into a ball for the spider's head. Place on your serving plate.
    4. Set 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture aside. Then, shape the remaining cheese into a flatter, oval shape that will become the spider's body. Attach this to the spider's head on your serving plate.
    5. Sprinkle poppy seeds all over the spider cheese ball. Use a paper towel to brush off any excess seeds from your serving plate.
    6. Adorn spider's head with 2 eyeball sprinkles for the eyes. For the legs, break each pretzel rod in half, sticking half into the spider's body (3 legs per side). Spread some of the reserved cheese from earlier onto the remaining pretzel half and attach at a slanted angle to the pretzel half that's in the spider's body.
    7. Serve with crackers on the side.
