Crispy chicken strips are delicious at any age, but we tend to avoid them as we grow older for the sake of being healthy. After all, chicken strips are usually fried in hot oil to make them the deliciously crispy meal that they are.

Thanks to the Air Fryer, however, you can make perfectly crisp and golden chicken strips without excessive oil. Instead, chicken strips are lightly breaded then sprayed with olive oil cooking spray before they’re placed in the Air Fryer to cook.

The resulting chicken strips will look like they’d been fried the traditional way, but with none of the unhealthy qualities of traditional frying.

If you wanted to make this chicken strips recipe even healthier, you can easily use panko crumbs instead of flour to bread your chicken. We think the Air Fryer is a happy compromise between traditional chicken strips and baked chicken strips.

If you have a little one who loves this fast food favorite, then don’t hesitate to give this chicken strips recipe a try; they won’t even notice a difference!

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 370°F. To a bowl or tupperware container, add the buttermilk and hot sauce. Whisk to combine. Place the chicken tenders in the buttermilk and cover the bowl/container, then refrigerate overnight or temporarily set aside while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
    2. To a shallow bowl, add the flour and seasoning blend. Whisk to combine. Add 1/4 of the buttermilk liquid that the chicken is resting in to the flour mixture. Stir to combine.
    3. Coat the chicken tenders in the flour mixture, making sure you pat the flour into the chicken well so it sticks and is evenly coated.
    4. Spray the inside of the air fryer with olive oil spray or cooking spray, then place some of the chicken tenders in the air fryer, making sure the chicken pieces don't touch either. Don't overcrowd the air fryer - you will need to cook the chicken tenders in two batches.
    5. Spray the chicken tenders with olive oil spray or cooking spray and cook for 10 minutes. Turn the chicken tenders over then cook for another 10 minutes. Serve immediately and repeat the cooking process for the remaining chicken tenders.
