Golden milk, also known as turmeric tea, is one of the most powerful recipes you can whip up in your kitchen. Providing a variety of medicinal benefits and healing properties, golden milk is a delicious, health-boosting beverage to enjoy before bed.
According to Ayurvedic belief, drinking golden milk helps heal the body and fight off ailments through its powerful medicinal properties. This is largely thanks to the active ingredient found in turmeric — curcumin.
Curcumin’s benefits range from managing diabetes and easing arthritis to preventing cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Paired with the black pepper in this golden milk recipe, the curcumin’s effect is increased by 1,000 times thanks to black pepper’s pungent property piperine.
To obtain the health benefits of golden milk, Ayurveda dictates that you drink the tea before bedtime when the body can easily digest the milk enzymes. It’s also important to include the ghee or coconut oil in this recipe as the fat helps the body absorb the turmeric better.
If you decide to add honey to this recipe, make sure that you add the full teaspoon as honey and ghee should always be taken in a 2:1 ratio, respectively. While the honey is optional, it will make the golden milk taste more enjoyable.
