Jerk Chicken Recipe

    Jerk Chicken with limes

If you’ve visited the Carribean or have enjoyed Carribean cuisine, then you’ve probably heard of Jamaican jerk chicken. This authentic jerk chicken recipe will yield a spicy barbecue chicken that’s just as tasty as the ones you’d find on the white sand beaches of the Carribean.

To make this easy jerk chicken recipe, you’ll want to use a combination of bone-in drumsticks and thighs. This kind of chicken will yield the best flavor and is what is typically favored by cooks who prepare this recipe.

The Jamaican jerk marinade or jerk seasoning that makes the chicken as flavorful as it is consists of ingredients like soy sauce, garlic, black pepper, green onions, and a medley of warm spices like ginger, allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Like most easy chicken recipes, this jerk chicken is very quick to come together. The marinade is whisked up in one bowl and poured over the chicken inside a large plastic bag. The chicken is then stored in the fridge for at least half an hour to marinate, then thrown on the grill to cook.

If you wanted to skip the grill and make an oven jerk chicken recipe, you would simply need to bake the chicken at a high temperature. You’d want to heat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil and a wire rack. The marinated jerk chicken would bake on top of this rack for about 45 minutes until cooked through and crispy.

    1. In a large bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients together with a whisk.
    2. Place the chicken pieces in a large ziplock bag and pour marinade all over the chicken. Zip the bag shut then give the bag a shake to get the chicken well-coated in the marinade. Refrigerate the chicken for at least 30 minutes.
    3. Turn on the grill to high heat, then place the chicken on the grill. Cook the chicken for about 20 to 25 minutes until cooked through and charred. Serve with lime slices and sliced green onions.
