Chili is one of those hearty, comforting meals that’s wonderful to curl up with on a cold, gloomy-looking day. When you’re looking for a satisfying warm meal to lift your mood, recipes like this pumpkin chili are the way to go.
This pumpkin chili recipe uses one of our favorite fall ingredients and seamlessly incorporates it into a classic dish, making it feel like it was always a staple ingredient in chili. Sweet pumpkin complements the hearty, ground turkey, balancing out all the savory flavors in this dish.
While a paleo diet allows for beef, this pumpkin chili recipe utilizes turkey as a leaner, still paleo-friendly alternative. If you prefer, you can still use ground beef to create this recipe.
One ingredient to make note of are the fire-roasted tomatoes. These add great flavor to the pumpkin chili so make sure you use those rather than regular canned tomatoes.
The entire chili comes together in about 25 minutes, but you can easily start this off in the slow-cooker and let it cook all day while you’re at work. Then, when you come home, you can grab a bowl and satisfy your hunger with this scrumptious pumpkin chili.

Ingredients
- 3 cups chopped yellow onion
- 8 cloves garlic chopped
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 2 cans fire-roasted tomatoes 15 oz each
- 2 cups pumpkin puree
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp honey
- 4 tsp dried oregano
- 2 tsp chili spice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Heat the coconut oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until translucent and tender, about 5 minutes.
- To the pot, add the ground turkey and use a wooden spoon to break up the turkey into small bits. Cook the turkey until it's browned, about another 5 minutes.
- Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot and raise the heat to high. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low or until the mixture is just simmering. Cook for 15 minutes.
- If the chili feels too thick, loosen it up with a little more chicken broth, otherwise, serve as is.
