Just like your garbage bin, at some point, your garbage disposal system might begin to give out a foul stench too. Resolve this problem with a quick, homemade solution. Did we mention it smells like coffee?
Here’s the recipe for a DIY garbage disposal refresher.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup used coffee grounds
- 3tbsp vinegar
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- ½ cup baking soda
- ½tsp vanilla or rose essence (optional)
- A bowl for mixing
- A tray, or a sheet pan
- Parchment paper
Directions:
- Add the coffee grounds, Epsom salt and baking soda to a mixing bowl.
- Mix in the vinegar little by little. Don’t worry if you see it bubble up. This is bound to happen, as vinegar reacts with baking soda. The consistency should now resemble wet sand.
- Add the vanilla or rose essence to this mix to give it a soothing fragrance.
- Layer a tray or a sheet pan with the parchment paper.
- Use a spoon or a scoop to pick up a small glob of the mix, and place it on the parchment paper. You can use your hands to make small ball shaped molds too.
- Make sure that the mix is well bound, and not too crumbly.
- Leave the coffee balls overnight to dry well.
- The next morning, place them in a small jar or cup, and leave it next to your sink or the cabinet.
- Whenever the drain begins to let out a stink, just drop one ball down, and turn on the disposal system and water. Not only will this neutralize the stench, but will also leave behind an aromatic coffee scent.
