Meditation can be practiced in any quiet and peaceful place, indoors or out. And we find meditation more effective – and even more enjoyable – when practiced in a space that also happens to be beautiful. That’s why we recommend meditating outdoors this summer. By focusing your full attention on the sights and sounds of your local park or beach (or even your backyard), you’ll not only clear your mind and soothe your stress but will come to better appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds you. Try to meditate for 15-20 minutes daily in order to fully experience the benefits of a clear mind and a tension-free body.

Directions:

  • Find a cool and quiet outdoor spot.
  • Sit cross-legged with your spine straight and your hands placed palms down on your thighs.
  • Concentrate on your setting. Focus your attention on the local sounds, sights and smells. If your mind begins to wander, refocus it on a specific sensation; for example, the sound of the birds or rustling leaves.
  • Breathe deeply and steadily.
